First Maltese to be infected with the corona virus

Now after it has entered Malta the virus affected first the Italian staying in Malta as they returned from Italy but now it in infected the Maltese who also came from Italy. The Maltese man who was infected is a doctor by profession so he knows very well how to handle this sort of virus.

Lovin Malta reported that Malta’s first coronavirus patients "had food delivered to their door to respect self-quarantine rules". Michael Borg an infection control officer at Mater Dei said that the family deserved a thank you from the Maltese society for being so cautious and respectful not like other infected people who went straight to work from their airport and God knows who they infected afterwards with the disease. Michael Borg said:

“These people were so responsible and had such a sense of civic duty that, thanks to them, we managed to isolate this case and will definitely keep it isolated.”

As of Thursday, we have two other cases reported and in total we have nine cases of coronavirus in Malta with four people being Maltese and the other five being foreigners who live in Malta. Press conferences are being done by the Superintendent for Health Professor Charmaine Gauci and Minister Chris Fearne on a daily basis giving us updates from time to time with new cases coming up every hour. Unfortunately these people were all screened coming in at the arrivals in the Malta International Airports but symptoms of this virus is coming out after a few days.

The virus is said that it will be killed immediately at an air temperature of 26 degrees celsius and now that we are in march the air temperature is not even hitting the 20 degree mark. It will be over 2 months in mid may since the temperature hid that mark here in Malta and the island welcomes the summer. I think this is a case where now we are on our feet for the summer to arrive unlike other winters where we know that this cold won't be lasting long.

The Times of Malta had set up a “live blog” for everyone to keep updated with the latest news on the coronavirus or COVID-19 as it is being called. The coronavirus is bringing the world upside down. Before you had to have a medical certificate for a person to be sick from work, now you have to have a medical certificate to be fit for work. You are not going to win “Gieh ir-Repubblika” which is the Malta’s system of honours, awards and decorations established in 1975 if you do not come in for work especially as this time of crisis.

A lot of public gatherings are being cancelled like the St Patrick’s Day event which in Malta is celebrated heavily during the past 10 years at a village in St Julians. Other cancellations include the feat of St Joseph in the village of Hal Ghaxaq on March, 19. In all coronavirus is heaving its toll on the Maltese population even on supermarkets as we now have what is being called the PAMA Panic!
